In 2023, under the auspices of the Commissioner for Children’s Rights of Kyrgyzstan, a report titled “Sexual Violence and Disability in Kyrgyzstan: Laws, Policies, Practices and Access to Justice” was presented to government agencies, international organisations, and civil society. The report, developed by national organisations including the Union of People with Disabilities “Equality” and the human rights movement “Bir Duino-Kyrgyzstan” in partnership with the international NGO Equality Now, analysed systemic legal and policy barriers preventing women and girls with disabilities who have experienced sexual violence from accessing justice. It provides recommendations aligned with Kyrgyzstan’s international human rights obligations aimed at improving protection and support mechanisms for this vulnerable group.
